The Space Is The Place

ANTIETAM
PG SIX  ESCAPE BY OSTRICH

"While you'd never know it from listening to the undeniably pleasant but comparatively lightweight indie-pop that comprises this up-from-Louisville New York trio's early records, Antietam possesses one of the most stealthy weapons in the post-punk sphere — the utterly transcendent guitar discourse of frontwoman Tara Key. Whether it was a trip down to the crossroads or merely a move to an apartment that allowed for more volume-intensive jam sessions, Antietam underwent a sea change sometime in the early '90s, one that transformed it into a juggernaut capable of tearing the roof off any venue on any given night." -Trouser Press

BARNYARD STOMPERS
Plus: JOHNNY SIDESHOW AND THE FEEJEE MERMAIDS

Casey Miller and Megan Wise — who have collectively played in many legendary roots music outfits including The Hillbilly Hellcats and The Bop Kings — are the power duo known as Barnyard Stompers. They have teamed together in order to combine several generations of Outlaw Country, Texas Stomp, Blues, Rockabilly and Dark Hillbilly, creating a new sub-genre known as Backwoods Twang. Barnyard Stompers definitely have a style all their own; however, they hold true to the stylings of the pioneers of roots music such as Johnny Cash, Tex Ritter, Bukka White, Blind Willie McTell, Bill Monroe, Roy Rogers, Waylon Jennings, Carl Perkins, Hank Williams and more recent artists like Scott H. Biram, Flat Duo Jets, and Junior Brown.

Some Of Us Have Adrenalized Hearts

BORN LOOSE • LIVIDS • THE SHIRKS
(STOP WORRYING AND) LOVE THE BOMB

Featuring an all-star line up with Larry May (Candy Snatchers), Suke (Snuka/Iron Prostate/Candy Snatchers), Shane Konen (Live Ones/ Ghetto Ways) and Eric Robel (Heroin Sheiks/Nova Express), Born Loose comes out swinging with real and raging rock'n'roll. Definitely a fresh breath of air for all those dying in indie-rock land.

So perhaps you heard that Mr. Eric Davidson (New Bomb Turks) has a new band going with the likes of Jami Wolf (Shop Fronts/Zodiac Killers), Daniel Kelley (Dead Ringers/Complaints/Paper Bags), and Greg Collins (Radio 4/Milhouse). If you think that sounds kinda awesome, you’d be absolutely right! I mean, come on! The greatness of Livids was inevitable. This Brooklyn punk rock supergroup, well-known to tear shit up live, obviously if you’re a New Bomb Turks fan, you’ll dig. Davidson, a living legend if there ever was one, has never sounded better. And his star-studded band more than lives up to expectations. You could easily pass Livids off as forgotten punk greats from punk’s class of 1977.

Scuzzed-out Washington DC speed-punk primitivists don’t sound like a band that practices in the garage. The Shirks sound like a band that sets the garage on fire just to watch it burn. They’re the kind of guys who, asked to describe their sound, say simply, “loud.”

Formed somewhere between the Black Cat and Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington, DC, (Stop Worrying And) Love The Bomb was born out of breakups. Sal Go’s and Mike’s old bands used to play shows together, so when the two met by chance at a Jay Reatard show in 2008, they talked bands, their respective failed relationships (Sal’s band/Mike’s girlfriend), and the new-foundabundance of free time on their hands. On the walk to get chili dogs after the show, they decided to form a band in the vein of The Reatards, Teengenerate, New Bomb Turks, blah blah blah. Sometimes the results have been in that ballpark, other times the sound is a little different, but it’s the same basic idea; short, fast, meat-and-potatoes punk.

KEVIN EGAN IS A JERK
DOC FRENCH • HELLO PHONES

"Kevin Egan Is A Jerk is the latest musical endeavor by singer/author Kevin Egan. Though you may know Kevin best from his late '80s/early '90s work with NYHC's Beyond and 1.6 Band, his newest release reflects more on his later recordings as Rules Of The Fort and most recently his work with the country act Twenty Four Thousand Dollars... Folky acoustic storytelling that is both laid back and heart warming." -United By Rocket Science

Clean Living Under Difficult Circumstances

THE ABOVE
45 ADAPTERS • QUITTY AND THE DON'TS

The Above are a rock'n'roll group hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Some folks might call them a garage band... others might describe their sound as rhythm and blues... but regardless of how they are categorized, it is undeniable that their music compels some serious dancing. With tube amps screamin', drum kits stompin', and vocal harmonies wailin', these ambassadors of freakbeat are making good in the city where rock'n'roll will never die.

The 45 Adapters sound like a truck full of Cock Sparrer records crashing into a truck full of Otis Redding records, and they don't trust anyone who doesn't dance.

Inspired by both the classic mod sound of early Kinks and the gritty revivalism of Billy Childish and Thee Headcoatees, Quitty And The Don'ts play urgent soulful garage-pop with dispassionate lyrics, driven by angular beats, layers of moody organ, and stabbing guitar lines.

The Reggay Lords (a NYC-area supergroup comprised of members of The Forthrights, The Hard Times, The Rudie Crew, and The Slackers) are the real deal, and are making some of the best rocksteady reggae you could ever hope for. Plus, their extraordinary new, self-titled digital album is probably one of the best and most original-sounding releases you'll hear all year." -The Duff Guide To Ska
